I met Jacob while undertaking a teaching practical at Darwin High School/NT School of Distance Education. His passion and depth of knowledge towards understanding and exploring human movement and kinematics was evident from our first couple of encounters and discussions and was displayed through his teachings and feedback towards his students. 

 

At this stage of my personal training journey, I felt ready for a change in routine and a consistent regime. I was currently doing exercises based off of previous gym programs developed while I was at Fremantle. While these programs were valuable at the time, I feel they were fairly generic and outdated and not specifically tailored for my personal goals. For these reasons I felt I lacked the motivation and direction to grow in my training journey and struggled to reach my training goals due to not having a clear path or understanding of what or where I wanted to be. 

 

A standard training week would traditionally consist of club football training on Tuesday and Thursday night with games predominantly on Saturday. With standardised gym sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I have found that many personalised training programs or trainers don’t adjust or create programs that accomodate for weekend games and the soreness that follows into the week. Having Jacob create a program that accounted for these factors was perfect, and allowed me to maximise my training both the days leading up to games and the soreness that came post games. 

 

I’ve really enjoyed logging in to TeamBuildr and seeing unconventional exercises or fun warm-up activities that promote strength or flexibility in a different style to what I’m used to - always explained or demonstrated by Jacob and always supported by credible research or studies. This alone has made lifting refreshing and exciting again, knowing that the program I’m doing is individually structured and being able to trust that the exercises will positively impact my performance.

 

As a result of training with Jacob over the last 6 months, my strength (and flexibility in particular) has really improved, I’ve been able to compete and have an injury free season in the NTFL (touch wood) and have a really influential season for my team.
