How to Accelerate Healing With Your Mind

The mind is a powerful tool and can be used to heal. Just like taking a pill that does nothing at all, the belief that the pill will cure you, can actually in fact, cure you - or at least reduce or minimise your symptoms. This is not a replacement for modern medicine, but skills you can develop and strategies you can use to support and accelerate modern medicine.

 

I had coffee with a friend recently who said she’s had a sore back for a few months. There was no reason for her sore back - no definitive event and nothing out of the normal that could have caused back pain. It just arose and stuck around. I told her how she could fix her back physically, but I also suggested she use her mind to support those exercises or else it may never get better.

 

I’ve been into psychology for some time now and in more recent times, have been looking into the power of the mind for healing. From working with energy healers to taking mind empowerment courses, I’ve seen time and time again how powerful the mind can be in making your dreams a reality, attracting your greatest desires, and healing.

How to Accelerate Healing With Your Mind

 

  • Think of your ailment in the past-tense. Often when someone has a sore back, they say things like, “Oh, I have a bad back”. That statement keeps the pain present and they are identifying as someone who has a bad back, and their body responds in kind. Instead, use terminology like, “I used to get pain in my back”, or, “Back when my back used to hurt all the time”. Take action and do things to improve your back but start using terminology to describe your pain in the past-tense. 

 

  • Relax. Being in a state of utter relaxation is a powerful state. Being able to go from the waking beta brain wave state to a relaxed alpha brain wave state and even deeper to a theta brain wave state is a powerful state for healing. At the theta brain wave level, feel good hormones and neurotransmitters that can assist in building the immune system back up are released.

 

  • Use visualisation. When you visualise, neural pathways are activated. Your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between true action and imagined action. It responds to both. The visualisation technique I like for healing is the 3 Scenes Technique and the MentalVideo Technique as part of the Silva Ultramind System inside the MindValley membership. 

 

  • Give positive meaning. When you do the exercises your physio has prescribed you, or take the medicine your doctor has prescribed you, give those treatments positive meaning by visualising the pain melting away as you do your exercises, or radiant white healing light bursting from the pill as you swallow it. 

 

  • Feel the emotions. As you visualise yourself living life free of this injury or pain, feel the emotions that emerge and feel yourself happy. See how this healing allows you to show up as your best self to the world and how it benefits others.

 

The mind is a powerful organ. Alternative healing should never replace modern medicine but the placebo effect shows us that the mind is capable of incredible healing. Use it to support and accelerate modern medicine for healing.
